That Awkward Moment

Directed by Tom Gormican, “That Awkward Moment,” is a rom-com about three men looking to get some, but realizing it means wanting more—think “Friends with Benefits” mixed with “The Hangover”.

Zac Efron is Jason, the obvious leader of the group. The movie starts out with him sitting on a park bench contemplating the “awkward moment,” hence the title, when a casual partner wants to know where the relationship is going. The more we see him the more we realize he is still transitioning from Disney to adult.

Miles Teller is the handy side-kick, Daniel, always ready for a joke, even going so far as to hand out Viagra like mints as they head out to party resulting in an interesting peeing position.

Michael B. Jordan is Mikey, the straight-laced doctor who just had the shock of his life when he finds out his wife is cheating on him and wants a divorce. Although we see him at the hospital several times, his schedule is surprisingly lax.
On the upside, they all band together for Mikey’s sake, vowing to stay single and mingle with as many women as they can get. It doesn’t last long as Jason falls in love with Ellie (British-up-and-comer Imogen Poots) who he once thought to be a hooker; when she finds out she laughs it off as a joke—Just like in real life, right? Daniel is gets literally and figuratively tangled up with his best girl friend, Chelsea (Mackenzie Davis) and Mikey hooks back up with his wife, Vera (Jessica Lucas).

So there is the romance. As for comedy, the Viagra gag is alright and when Jason is invited to “dress-up party” he sports an outfit that would be great for a college party (including dildo) not a classy birthday party with family and friends such as this. Oh and there seems to be a running joke on Morris Chestnut. Who is he? Well, that’s the joke.

I give it 4 stars out of 10.

The Secret Life of Pets 2

When the original Secret life of Pets was launched I was skeptical.  However it was innovative and very entertaining.  The storyline was fresh and the characters were one of a kind. Fast forward to the sequel and I can’s say the same.  This time, my 5 year old son was my critique in training and...
