The Fantastic Four
The question has to be asked… Why is it so hard to make a halfway decent Fantastic Four movie? This was more like “Fantastic Bore”
This is the third installment in the franchise and is a complete reboot (In theory anyway). After the atrocious first two movies, Fox tries its hand at a more serious and much younger approach to the series that started the Marvel empire. Reed Richards (Miles Teller) is shown to be a whiz kid from a young age and grows up working in his garage on a machine that can move matter back and forth between dimensions. Reed gets noticed at a local science fair and is soon offered a scholarship to work in the big city for Baxter enterprises who happen to be trying to achieve the same results.
Once Reed and his colleagues comprised of Victor (Toby Kebbell), Sue (Kate Mara), and Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan) complete the project, the three men along with Reed’s childhood friend Benn Grimm (Jamie Bell) decide to make a trip to the alternate dimension (Planet Zero), where Victor gets trapped and the rest of them barely make it back to earth.(Not before being exposed to some sort of radiation which changes them.) Sue happens to also gets infected since she was stationed in the lab when the ship returned. It’s ironic that the new found land is named “Planet Zero” as zero pretty much describes the compatibility among this cast.
This movie drags on for almost an excruciating hour before we even get to see what powers that the four have. Once we do see them in action, it’s pretty lame by Marvel standards. The best part of the movie is when Victor returns as Dr. Doom and creates some chaos, but even that is ruined by what I think might be the worst plot ending to a Marvel movie in history. In fact, it’s downright comical.
I know Marvel fans will want to go see this, but I must warn you to simply don’t expect much. In fact, don’t even expect an end of credits extra scene that Marvel is known for.
