Better Man
Better Man is the newest biopic surrounding the music industry. This time it focuses on British Pop Star Robbie Williams. This film takes a very original approach at telling the story. Unlike all the recent biopics that have been released lately, this film relies on the actual person to reprise his role as himself. But there’s a twist. What you see on screen is a monkey. Yes, you read that right. A monkey, voiced by Robbie Williams, is the main character.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure who Robbie Williams even was before I saw this film. I don’t know a ton about British Pop music, but what I heard I liked quite a bit. The film was a fast-paced entertaining film. The music was great and the story was fun to follow along with. Robbie’s life has been a roller coaster ride. Like many musicians, he’s had his share of ups and downs. His talent is undeniable, but it hasn’t always been easy for him. The most enjoyable thing about this film is that it focused a ton of attention on the relationships between Robbie and his mom and dad. It was fascinating seeing their interactions, especially with the dad.
One other thing that really stood out was that a lot of these biopics aren’t always 100% accurate and sometimes the subjects don’t even like the films. Since Robbie Williams was so heavily involved in this film, it feels all the more authentic. While some things are always changed for the sake of making a movie, this one felt very real and didn’t sugarcoat anything in Robbie’s life. Massive credit to Robbie for being willing to share so many things about his life and the troubles he’s gone through.
This film is one of the easier films to watch in recent memory. While it’s very entertaining, it also tells a good story. And even though it’s 2 hours and 14 minutes, the film absolutely flies by. The last thing to mention is the CG that was used to create the monkey. That was truly remarkable. At no point did it feel like you were watching a computer generated animal. This film should wins the visual effects Oscar hands down. Do yourself a favor and go watch this film.
