Before I Go To Sleep
Based on the best-selling novel by S.J. Watson, Before I Go To Sleep stars Nicole Kidman as Christine Lucas – a woman who wakes up every day not remembering anything in her life. Her amnesia is caused by a brutal assault that she suffered in the past. Her husband Ben, played by Colin Firth starts over every day the same way trying to explain who he is to his wife and gain her trust. We see this monotonous scene play out over and over and over.(You get the idea.)
Mark Strong plays a doctor who tries to help Christine remember her frightening past and that is where the plot twists and turns. His methods are controversial at best, but his results seem to work.
I have to admit that the premise for this thriller is good, but the story simply drags and drags to the point that you really don’t care what develops in the end. In fact, think Groundhog Day mixed with Sleeping With the Enemy. Not to mention, the plot is filled with so many holes, it will leave you shaking your head at the end. Director Rowan Joffe had a great cast and story to work with but simply could not make it that interesting.
A decent rental, but not much more. 5 out of 10 stars.
