Laggies

Laggies is a straightforward, no frills story about 28 year old Megan(Keira Knightley) who pretty much goes through an early mid-life crisis. She has an advanced degree, but still works a dead end job and she “lags” behind all of her friends as they proceed with their lives.

Megan goes full on rogue when her longtime boyfriend(Mark Webber) proposes. In fact, it freaks her out so much she goes off the grid and ends up staying over at the home of 16 year old newly found friend Annika(Chloë Grace Moretz). Megan soon gains Annika’s trust and they share several pretty deep moments and experiences with each other.

To add to the complication, Megan soon finds herself attracted to Annika’s single dad Craig(Sam Rockwell). In the end, Megan realizes that settling for the status quo isn’t the answer and going for what you want is all that really matters in life.

Director Lynn Shelton does a nice job of keeping the viewer engaged and interested in all of Megan’s dubious misadventures throughout. Solid performances by Knightley and Moretz make it very easy to watch and actually feel and care for the characters.

At the end, I really found myself enjoying the ride and think it’s a pretty good date movie. 7 out of 10 stars.

The Color Purple

I must admit that I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect in the new film The Color Purple.  The subject matter seemed tough for a musical.  And the director, Blitz Bazawule, really didn’t have much under his belt to prepare myself for this film.  I assumed the singing would be spot on as we all...
