A Haunting in Venice
A Haunting in Venice is a solid, well done “Who Done It” blast from the past movie that is good but not great. The all around acting and post World War II Venice staging is fine, but there is really nothing “exciting” or memorable from the entire film.
The story is that detective/sleuth Hercule Poirot(Kenneth Branagh) is tricked out of retirement by author Ariadne Oliver(Tina Fey) to come to a Halloween seance to see a real medium Joyce Reynolds(Michelle Yeoh) and to try to solve the mystery of all the spirits that are claimed to be in the palazzo of opera star Rowena Drake (Kelly Reilly) after her daughter drowned there.
What we find next is a “Clue” like movie where everyone is a suspect and our sleuth eliminates suspects one by one. It is a typical Agatha Christie novel and while fine to watch, like I mentioned before, just plays out without being anything special. Mystery lovers will like it while everyone else will think it was just ok.
