A Quiet Place Day One

A Quiet Place Day is the next installment in the Quiet Place saga.  This film doesn’t pick up where the other films left off, rather it picks up at the very beginning.  As a stand alone film, it’s a great film.  There is a ton of suspense throughout.  There is great background with the two main characters that adds greatly to the film.  It’s always interested to see a big city like New York during an apocalyptic event.  This film didn’t disappoint there as we got to see all sorts of destruction that led to a really well-filmed movie.  Joseph Quinn and Lupita Nyong’o had remarkable chemistry throughout the film and you felt deeply for both characters.  And let’s not forget the wonderful, loving cat Frodo.  Usually it’s a dog that grabs the audiences’ hearts, but not this time around.  You’ll be on pins and needles rooting for Frodo to navigate the chaos and make it to safety.

The one downside with the film is that it lacked when it came to pushing along the story of A Quiet Place.  Being that this was an origin story, I had hoped for more backstory as to why this all is happening.  The first two Quiet Place films did very little to explain the why part of the story.  Sadly Day One didn’t go any further with that.  There wasn’t anything at all to help explain why this has happened or where the creatures came from.  That was disappointing after hoping for more.

Overall it is a very solid film.  It simply lacked in the explanation of the origin.

7 out of 10.
