AMY

Amy is the painful, humorous, and remarkably tragic look into the life of singer Amy Winehouse. This documentary is one of the best I have seen in a while as it shows the real good times as well as the deep dark bad times during Amy’s life. Director Asif Kapadia (“Senna”) does a great job of combining real footage mixed with interviews from Amy’s friends and family.(Even Tony Bennett chimed in as he was a huge influence for Amy’s music.) It really seems like not much was off limits and as a viewer you really come to understand all of the demons that Amy felt during her life.

It is also a very frustrating movie as you can clearly see in hindsight that a lot of Amy’s struggles could have been prevented simply by surrounding herself with different people as well as to have a more nurturing and positive home life. To see what she made of her life and talent despite these challenges was nothing short of heroic.

This a a wonderful watch and very heartbreaking as well.
