Dumb and Dumber To
Almost 20 years after Dumb and Dumber initially shocked and entertained us…reaching cult-like status among some people, out comes the anticipated Dumb and Dumber To sequel. I have to admit that I really did not have any preconceived thoughts of this being remotely good or funny coming in.
Well it definitely wasn’t good, but it was quite funny! The movie unquestionably has a unique audience niche and I guarantee that they will love all of the bawdry, infantile humor(which abounds plentifully.) If not anything, it’s a clean getaway from the problems and reality in your life and a surefire 1 hour and 49 minute break for your brain.
The Farrelly Brothers reprise the dimwitted, yet somewhat lovable characters of Lloyd (Jim Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Bridges) in another misadventure full of peril and hilarity. The story is that Harry realizes that he needs a kidney in order to stay alive and when he finds out that he has a daughter that was once given up for adoption, the urgent quest begins to find her and her kidney.
Like I mentioned, the film has a specific audience in mind and Harry and LLoyd’s antics will surely please them. As for the rest of society, we will get an occasional few laughs from the film and enjoy its mindless humor for a while. It does get tiresome as the story plays out, but as long as you have very low expectations, it achieves its purpose.
When all is said and done, the sequel feels more like an homage to the original than a brand new creation(even going so far as showing sporadic clips and pieces in spots), but I think overall the audience pretty much knows what it is getting before they even set foot in the theater.
A 5 out of 10.
