What happens when a college student Lucy (Scarlett Johannson) studying abroad gets abducted and implanted with a drug so that a druglord can use her as a mule? Utter nonsense is what!
Basically, the drug bag breaks and seeps into her system which in return allows Lucy to access parts of her brain that no one has before . That’s pretty much where the movie goes downhill fast. Director Luc Bresson’s film had so much potential, but it wanders into the ludicrous depths of stupidity with its developing premise. Just watch the ending to see what I mean.
Johnansson does a decent job with her role, utilizing lots of blank stares which had me seeing déjà vue from Under My Skin, but in the end, even she could not save such a ridiculous plot. And why did Morgan Freeman take this role? This will definitely not be one for his highlight reel.
I admit, I am both a Johannson and Freeman fan, but this movie is just plain horrible.
