Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Sometimes it’s best to never, ever, mess with a classic.
Let me first start by saying that this film had one of the best titles since…well
“Snakes on a Plane.” Based on the best selling novel by the same name (Loosely
based on the Jane Austen version)by Seth Grahame, PPZ is not a zombie film, it’s not a
horror film, but a bit of both with a comedic twist. Unlike “Abraham Lincoln:
Vampire Hunter” which I rather enjoyed, PPZ tried to take it to a different level by
mixing the classic story telling of Austen’s novel and threw in a “World War Z” jump
shot – missing horribly.
The characters as you can imagine are the same as in Austen’s novel but Mr. Darcy is a fearless zombie hunter and the Bennet sisters are
shao-lin trained warriors, and that’s about it. The production value I will give a bit
more credit, as it is well represented to the period drama, and the graphic gore and
make up effects were decent. All in all this could have made a very interesting and
dare I say enjoyable short film, but as a feature you will be amused for about ten
minutes, after that you will be in for a awfully long, bloody haul.
