Reminders of Him

Reminders of Him

Reminders of Him is the newest film based on Colleen Hoover’s novels.  She has several other books adapted into films like It Ends With Us and Regretting You.  This film takes a bit more serious look at a romantic film.  There are some light hearted moments to soften the audience, but this film has a very serious tone to it.

This is a film that delivers a very powerful message in the world today.  It’s all about forgiveness and trying not to judge people.  Admittedly this is a hard message as those are two things that don’t come easy.  Maika Monroe does a solid job of playing the female lead.  Her life has been anything but easy, but she’s trying to take it one day at a time and do the best she can.  At the end of the day, she’ll do just about anything to be a part of her daughter’s life.  The lead male, Tyriq Withers, is in a different place in his life.  He’s a football player who had a career ending injury and now he’s trying to find his place in life after football.  However, he’s missing something in his life.  Monroe and Withers have good chemistry throughout the film, even if it feels a bit forces at times.

Lauren Graham and Bradley Whitford both play large roles in the film.  They are tasked with trying to forgive Monroe’s character who was a part of a horrible moment in their lives.  The acting for this film is actually quite good for a film that is built on romance.

While the film’s story feels pretty implausible, it’s still a film worth watching for the right audience.  For those that enjoy a story about redemption and romance, this will be a film they enjoy.  It has solid music and the tone shifts throughout so it doesn’t get slow at any point.  It also has a nice little twist that adds to the plot.

All together it’s a fine film for what it is.  It’s not trying to win Oscars or break the box office.  It delivers a message that the world can use while also being entertaining.

Overall grade 6 out of 10.

The Mean Girls are back! Well…kind of…but not really. It has been 20 years since Mean Girls became an overnight cult classic. This 2024 version is not a sequel and not even a reboot, but more of a musical makeover. If anything, this seemed more like a cinematic version of the Broadway musical...

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

The third installment of The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise certainly did not disappoint.  It didn’t have quite the same feel as the first two as it was a bit more serious.  Making these Marvel films feel more like dramas doesn’t deter me from seeing them.  James Gunn has done a...
