The BFG
The BFG or “Big Friendly Giant” along with “Finding Dory” will be the two biggest children’s summer blockbuster movies in my opinion. Since I never read BFG as a kid, I had a total open mind and found the film quite enjoyable. It is mainly tailored to kids, but adults might enjoy it as well.
The story centers around a little orphaned girl Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) who is kidnapped by a giant (Mark Rylance) because he notices that Sophie sees him one night and is afraid that she will report him to her elders and authorities. What turns out to be a kidnapping soon turns to friendship as the lovable giant and Sophie really strike up a great relationship. In fact, the bond between them is very believable and I found myself rooting for them both throughout their adventures and tribulations.
Directed by Steven Speilberg, this movie drags a bit at the beginning , but nevertheless, will have kids fully engrossed and entertained throughout! It’s pretty safe for all ages with the exception of a few funny gassy moments which kids normally love anyway! I won’t ruin the plot for those of you that are not familiar with it, but I’ll just say that Disney has yet another hit on its hands with this one.(Sounds like a stuck record, but Disney has really upped its game lately!) The soundtrack is stellar as you would expect coming from John Williams and the animation and 3D effects are also superb.
