The Little Mermaid
The new live action reboot of the Little Mermaid hits theatres this weekend and is a great movie for adults and young kids alike! Most everything stays the same from the original animated movie, but there are definitely some changes(both good and bad.)
For starters, Halle Bailey who plays Ariel and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula are very well casted. As opposed to some other Disney movies where inclusion and diversity is forced(See Lightyear), this one actually makes sense! I mean you have Humans mixed with Mer People(Is that a word?), along with the origin story of Prince Eric.
That aside, the live action and CGI work was done very well and a joy to watch! In fact, the 2 hours and 15 minutes flew by in no time! Director Rob Marshall did a great job of pacing this one and the transitions between scenes were much smoother than the original animated film.
There are a few scary moments for the kiddos, but all in all, I would recommend it for the whole family! Solid 8/10
