Vacation
I would rather work every day for the rest of my life than go on this vacation again.
Remakes are always a dicey proposition and this rehash of the classic simply fails on so many levels. Really, I wanted to like this movie and it has some funny moments, but in the end, I found myself begging for it to be over..
The storyline of Vacation is that it follows the children of the original film’s kids after they have grown up and set out on the same roadtrip to Wally World to relive their past. Rusty Griswold (Ed Helms) is the poor helpless sap who cannot get much right while his wife Debbie (Christina Applegate) and their two kids (Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebbins) go along on for the ride and to pretty much appease their father.
I’ll keep this one short and just say that the script is horrible, the jokes are forced and crude, the plot is not even remotely plausible, and the acting is downright atrocious. I also have to wonder what the heck Chris Hemsworth was thinking accepting a role (even though it’s a small one) in this garbage? But even his character goes for too many forced laughs and it ends up simply looking stupid.)
I guess real fans of the original movie will want to go see this one and to them I’d say the best thing is probably the hidden homages and references to the original movie. Besides that, it’s a total letdown.
So basically, in a nutshell I am saying please save your money and catch this one on dvd or cable.
3 out of 10 stars.
