Zoolander 2

So Zoolander 2 huh? When I first watched the first film, it wasn’t until about 15 minutes in that I really started to get into sarcastic humor and dimwit personality of Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller). Did we really need a sequel to that film that played on the self-centered world of fashion? No, But then again we really didn’t need the original either.

Yes, this film is as ridiculous as it’s supposed to be, that is why it works. Ben Stiller and the majority of the original cast returned to this cameo filled comedy. This time Derek and Hansel are out of work “has-beens” set out to re-conquer the fashion world while helping Interpol find the answer to a number of unexplained murders of superstars all over the world, oh yeah and find Derek’s long lost son while they are at it too. Yup, it’s that complicated!!!

With a returning cast and cameos galore, with appearances not only from movie and music stars like Justin Bieber, but also fashion icons like Tommy Hilfiger. All is well put together, but in my opinion the character that takes the catwalk was “All” played superbly by Benedict Cumberbatch. The cynicism is a little warmer and fuzzier this time, but the witty punch lines are still there and some of the original jokes are brought back with incredible twists that just make the film work. The film does have its rough patches and gets bumpy in some areas but manages to pull out “LOL’s” throughout the entire film.

All in all Z2 has Stiller returning to his original comedic self, and with a cast that seemed to just be well put together, this film is a good sequel to the original and that alone was no easy task. By the end it will have you remembering all those times you pulled your “blue steel”.
