Neon Demon

I walked into the Neon Demon not having any idea what I was going to see and I left the movie having no idea what I just saw! I honestly think that Neon Demon might be the most messed up, disturbing, confusion, yet curiously interesting movie I have seen in years. Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn is responsible for this inscrutable film and my girlfriend almost throwing up while watching it.(Luckily she didn’t so I’ll give him a pass.) I do have to say that despite the shocking nature of Neon Demon, the cinematography and soundtrack are simply outstanding!

The story is about young model Jesse (Elle Fanning) and her arrival to LA to break into the modeling and fashion industry. The film documents her struggles with the lifestyle despite her obvious outer beauty. The plot is pretty solid and interesting till the last thirty minutes arrive and your mind gets blown to smithereens. Jena Malone (Contact, Donnie Darko) also gives a standout performance as a creepy makeup artist and sole friend for Jesse.

I won’t ruin it for you guys by giving away any spoilers, but safe to say just BEWARE.(And don’t say I didn’t warn you!)

6 out of 10 confusing stars.
