Sinners

Ryan Coogler takes his first shot at a truly original story and does not disappoint. Sinners is a wild ride with tremendous suspense and music that really adds to the feel of the film.

Michael B. Jordan plays both twin brothers who are trying to escape a past life of crime and drama. Unfortunately, their plan doesn’t shake out the way they intended when the secrets of the small town are revealed. Sinners will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the film. Coogler delivers a film that was quite unexpected after the making of his first films.

All of the performances nailed it as well. In addition to Jordan, Delroy Lindo, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton and Tenaj L. Jackson did a phenomenal job building up the story. You felt connected to the characters as there was just enough back story to understand them.

Lastly, who can ignore the music?  The rhythm and soul of the music brought out all the action and suspense. This is a film designed to be seen on the largest and loudest theatre you can find. Many of the scenes were filmed with an imax camera, which always adds great depth to the scenery.

If you can stomach intense gore and scares, this is the film for you.  It’s the best film of 2025 so far and should not be missed.

Overall 9 out of 10.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

The third installment of The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise certainly did not disappoint.  It didn’t have quite the same feel as the first two as it was a bit more serious.  Making these Marvel films feel more like dramas doesn’t deter me from seeing them.  James Gunn has done a...
