A Cure For Wellness

Gore Verbinsky’s new film, A Cure for Wellnes is a horror thriller, which takes place in the mountains of the Swiss Alps. Lockhart (Dane DeHaan), a young executive is sent from New York to the Alps to retrieve his CEO, Mr. Pembroke (Harry Groener), back so that he can sign merger documents to avoid bankruptcy. Once there, he starts to see that all the patients at the sanitarium are seeking to be disease-free. He keeps seeking to find the ulterior motive the facility director (Jason Isaacs) has. While searching for the answers, he endures barbaric torture, administered by the sanitarium staff as his own sanity is been tested.

Dane DeHann does a really good job portraying his character. I was not familiar with any of his movies/role and I look forward to seeing him in future films!

I saw the movie preview and was waiting for the release. I like movies where you get to figure out the story as it unfolds… Why the facility director is, in essence, sucking the life out the patients at the sanitarium.

The movie kept my focus glued to the screen and even made me jump/cringe a few times. I was rather disappointed by the ending though as it felt as though the writer just wanted to end the story.

Chloé Zhao’s new movie Hamnet is a beautiful and deeply moving adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel. It tells the quiet, heartbreaking story of the death of Shakespeare’s young son and how that loss affects his family. This is not a loud tragedy; it is slow and crushing sorrow. It seems...

If I Had Legs, I'd Kick You

“If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” a new A24 indie directed by Mary Bronstein, is one of those movies that sticks with you long after the credits roll — emotionally exhausting but ultimately very, very touching, particularly for anyone who has ever had to go through the drudgery of being a parent or...
