Verity
Based on the best selling book by Colleen Hoover, Verity is quite possibly one of the most unpalpable, unplausible, yet fascinatingly entertaining movies to come out in awhile. It all starts as practically unknown and struggling author Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson) is approached to ghostwrite books for very successful author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) after Verity is left in a catatonic state after suffering a horrific car accident.
At first, Lowen does not feel that she is up to the task, but she soon receives a monetary offer that she cannot refuse. She proceeds to move in to Verity’s home for a few months to do research and write the books and that is where all the wild twists and turns start.
Without revealing any spoilers, there are so many insane plot twists in this movie, the viewer has no idea what is real and what is not. The acting is done pretty well from a nice cast, but the plot holes leave a lot to be desired. Despite all the dark and mature content, the twists are actually really entertaining and very thought provoking. While the plot holes do exist, the rest of the movie keeps the viewer’s attention and in the end turns out to be is a fairly nice popcorn movie.
Verity is pretty much “Gone Girl” light and an interesting watch as long as it is not taken too seriously. A decent 6/10.
