Wild Horse Nine
Wild Horse Nine is a dark comedy/ political thriller directed by Martin McDonagh. The story follows 2 CIA agents (Sam Rockwall as Lee and John Malkovich as Chris.) The partners are sent from Santiago, Chile to Easter Island by their bureau chief, MJ(Steve Buscemi). Chris is aging, unpredictable, and recording a memoir full of agency secrets which his higher ups frown upon. Lee ends up caught between loyalty to his friend and orders from above. Things get more muddled when Chris befriends two defiant local students who happen to be on the same trip.
This is by far Malkovich’s strongest performance as an actor, which should see him rewarded handsomely come award season. The chemistry between Rockwall and Malkovich also shines through and makes the movie very entertaining. The run time is a little under 2 hours and it is very well paced without slowing down for unnecessary moments.
As solid 9/10 and a possible Beast Actor Oscar for Malkovich
