Barbie

I have to admit that when I heard a movie about Barbie was coming out, my expectations were very low! Well, I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun this movie was to watch!

Writer and Director Greta Gerwig created a wonderful Pink Oasis and the casting of Barbie(Margot Robbie) and Ken(Ryan Gosling) was spot on. In fact, Gosling is flat out hilarious in this movie!

The concept is that life is perfect for women living in the alternate reality of the Barbie Dreamland where women have all the power and prestige and men are pretty much second class citizens. This all changes when Barbie one day starts having dark thoughts about death, bad breath, and even the horror of having a patch of cellulite show up on her body! This is all tied to a girl in the real world having problems and issues and taking it out on her doll.

Barbie has to go find this girl and try to make everything right and thus begins our movie adventure. The movie is really funny with both Robbie and Gosling leading the way, but also becomes pretty hysterical at times with the additions of Will Ferrell(The Mattel CEO), John Cena(Water Ken), Michael Cera(Allan), and Kate Mckinnon(Weird Barbie.)

While the story has many funny moments, it also delves into some pretty serious topics and especially the role that women play in today’s society. In fact, America Ferrera (Gloria) has a particular speech that everyone will be talking about for awhile!

Without spoiling anything for our readers, I would just say that Barbie is a perfect summer date movie and that I was more than happy to be in the Barbie World for a bit!

The Secret Life of Pets 2

When the original Secret life of Pets was launched I was skeptical.  However it was innovative and very entertaining.  The storyline was fresh and the characters were one of a kind. Fast forward to the sequel and I can’s say the same.  This time, my 5 year old son was my critique in training and...

Aladdin

Ok so here we go!   With so much flack this film has received since the teaser trailer of a blue Will Smith. I was not only not looking for much, but had a film critic in training with me, my 8 year old daughter. Now, unlike her I grew up seeing the animated original and so I knew...
